Transcripción del discurso de Berta Cáceres en la ciudad de San Francisco Californa, EEUU al momento de recibir el premio Ambiental Goldmann 2015.

“En nuestras cosmovisiones somos seres surgidos de la tierra, el agua y el maíz.

De los ríos somos custodios ancestrales, el pueblo Lenca, resguardados además por los espíritus de las niñas que nos enseñan que dar la vida de múltiples formas por la defensa de los ríos es dar la vida para el bien de la humanidad y de este planeta.

El COPINH, caminando con pueblos por su emancipación, ratifica el compromiso de seguir defendiendo el agua, los ríos y nuestros bienes comunes y de la naturaleza, así como nuestros derechos como pueblos.

¡Despertemos¡ ¡Despertemos Humanidad¡ Ya no hay tiempo.

Nuestras conciencias serán sacudidas por el hecho de estar sólo contemplando la autodestrucción basada en la depredación capitalista, racista y patriarcal.

El Río Gualcarque nos ha llamado, así como los demás que están seriamente amenazados en todo el mundo. Debemos acudir. 

La Madre Tierra militarizada, cercada, envenenada, donde se violan sistemáticamente derechos elementales, nos exige actuar.

Construyamos entonces sociedades capaces de coexistir de manera justa, digna y por la vida.

Juntémonos y sigamos, con esperanza, defendiendo y cuidando la sangre de la tierra y de sus espíritus.

Dedico este premio a todas las rebeldías, a mi madre, al Pueblo Lenca, a Río Blanco, al COPINH, y a las y los mártires por la defensa de los bienes de la naturaleza. Muchas gracias.”

Translation of the transcription of the speech of Berta Cáceres in the city of San Francisco, Californa, USA at the time of receiving the Goldmann Environmental Award 2015.

"In our cosmovisions, we are beings born from the earth, water and corn.

The Lenca people are ancestral custodians of the rivers, protected also by the spirits of the girls who teach us that giving our lives in multiple ways for the defense of the rivers is to give life for the good of humanity and this planet.

COPINH, walking alongside people for their emancipation, ratifies the commitment to continue defending water, rivers and our common and natural resources, as well as our rights as peoples.

Let us wake up! Let us wake up, humankind! We’re out of time!

Our consciences will be shaken by the fact that we are only contemplating self-destruction based on capitalist, racist and patriarchal depredation.

The Gualcarque River has called us, as well as others that are seriously threatened throughout the world. We must answer their call!

Our mother earth, militarized, fenced-in, poisoned, a place where basic rights are systematically violated – demands that we take action.

Let us then build societies capable of coexisting in a just, dignified way and for life.

Let's come together and, with hope, let’s continue defending and caring for the blood of the earth and its spirits.

I dedicate this award to all rebellions, to my mother, to the Lenca people, to Río Blanco, to COPINH, and to the martyrs for the defense of the goods of nature. Thank you."

En ese sentido, estas líneas pretenden llamar la atención sobre una política de represión que el Estado mexicano ha instaurado desde hace por lo menos 50 años y que quienes las lean, conozcan algunos detalles de las vidas de las personas a quienes desde el poder se les quiso borrar desapareciéndoles, pero que pese al tiempo, la incertidumbre, la impunidad, la simulación y la crueldad permanentes, continúan presentes desde la memoria y el afecto, con la esperanza de que más temprano que tarde sean regresados al hogar que los añora todos los días, todo el tiempo.

“In recent years, my birth city has experienced growing rates of unemployment, poverty, and crime, becoming one of the most dangerous cities in the world with a murder per capita of 59 per 1,000 people as of 2016. This is especially true after the 2009 U.S. backed coup to remove democratically-elected Manuel Zelaya from the presidential office. Corrupt post-coup governments have been closely linked with police and drug cartels, which have only exacerbated the inequity, violence, and poverty in Honduras, leading many people, including unaccompanied youth, to embark on dangerous journeys to the North. I often wonder what my life would have been like had we stayed in Tegucigalpa, yet the social and political context of Honduras at the time drove my mother’s hard decision to leave and subsequently shaped the experiences of my family.”
